Axel Scheibel appointed to the Management Board of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann

25.06.2021

The Supervisory Board of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann has appointed Dr.-Ing. Axel Scheibel (59) to the company’s Management Board. In his new function, he will be responsible for development and production from 1 July 2021, thus completing the management body traditionally consisting of three persons, in which Ralf Ketzel (CEO) and Horst Rieder (CFO) temporarily shared Axel Scheibel’s future tasks.

After obtaining his doctorate and working at the University of Kassel, Axel Scheibel joined the then Wegmann GmbH in Kassel in 1995, which merged with the defense technology division of Munich-based Krauss-Maffei AG four years later to form Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). Scheibel still holds teaching positions at universities, including the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg.

Over the past twelve years as Head of Research and Development, Axel Scheibel has played a key role in shaping KMW’s path to the top among the manufacturers of military land systems in Europe. The leading edge technology represented by products such as the Leopard main battle tank, the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, the self-propelled howitzer 2000 or the Boxer modular multirole vehicle all bear his signature, as do the project steps taken so far to develop the future Franco-German land combat system MGCS, which is to be delivered from 2035.
