APVT Amphibious Protected Vehicle Tracked – At home in two worlds

The rise of amphibious capabilities thanks to the innovative APVT concept expands the operational spectrum of military land operations.

Performance characteristics of the APVT

The APVT demonstrator is an amphibious battle vehicle with a combat weight of 30 tons which combines mobility on land and water in a fully protected modern tracked vehicle. With the APVT, KMW (a company of KNDS) has created an innovative, modern and adaptable concept in a design study which illustrates the performance capabilities of amphibious APVT deployment to customers worldwide.

Circle
No-compromise amphibious solution

The APVT unites a full-fledged land vehicle and a full-fledged water vehicle through its unique bidirectional vehicle concept (front optimised for land travel, rear optimised for water travel).

Circle
Mobility and flexibility

The changeover from highly dynamic tracked vehicle to highly agile, jet-propelled water vehicle and vice-versa is fully automatic and executed in less than one minute.

Circle
APC/IVF role

The APVT transports up to ten soldiers including combat gear, is equipped with a fully stabilised, unmanned weapon station (20mm + 76mm + day/night vision optics) and supports the IFV role in mounted as well as dismounted combat.

Circle
Mobility on water and land

The APVT operates on land in the most challenging terrain and swims through bodies of water. It provides up to ten infantry soldiers on board with fully protected mobility on land and water.

Circle
Remote-controlled weapon station

Fire missions can be carried out on land and water with the remote-controlled weapon station.

Facts about the APVT

Modern, heavily armoured and highly mobile on land and in water; transportable by air, sea, rail and road

The APVT demonstrator is an amphibious battle vehicle with a combat weight of 30 tons which combines mobility on land and water in a fully protected modern tracked vehicle. Expandability by a payload of up to 5 tons enables technical adaptability of protection, armament and command systems. The vehicle can also be used to carry equipment and the APVT assumes the role of a special purpose vehicle, such as a “command and control” vehicle, radar, CSAR or similar.

More information
Equipment features of the APVT
  • Passive all-round protection for the crew tailored to specific threats (such as IEDs, mines or anti-tank fire)
  • Bidirectionality: The APVT unites land and water mobility in an innovative, single vehicle concept in that it drives with the front forwards and swims with the rear forwards. Each side has been optimised for the specific medium.
  • Dynamic land travel: The vehicle drives with the front forwards as a conventional rear-driven tracked vehicle (MBT-like driving properties), which gives the driver a free, unrestricted field of vision and provides the mounted infantry with all the properties of an IFV.
  • Rapid switchover from land to water travel: The APVT switches fully automatically between land and water travel mode and vice-versa in less than one minute.
  • Agile water travel: The APVT swims with its fluidically optimised rear first and displaces the water. Its hydrojet drive enables rapid turning manoeuvres and forward as well as rearward travel by redirecting the jet of water.
