Facts about the AMPV

Mobile and well-protected in all climate zones

The AMPV was developed based on Bundeswehr requirements for a modern command and utility vehicle. Its self-supporting safety cell in conjunction with adaptive protective elements provides the crew with the highest-possible level of protection from ballistic threats, artillery shrapnel, mines and explosives. It has space for 4–5 crew members and is prepared to accommodate a wide variety of equipment kits. The work station design corresponds to current ergonomic requirements.

This and the state-of-the-art interior air conditioning equipment ensure a high level of endurance. Automatic transmission, automatic locking management and a single-wheel suspension specifically developed for military applications enable safe on-road driving behaviour and the best off-road mobility. This and the wide field of vision of the undivided panes of bulletproof glass allow the crew to optimally concentrate on its tasks on the battlefield.

Numerous characteristics make this highly flexible vehicle particularly attractive: For instance, its tight turning radius of 15 m in conjunction with a 200 kW (272 HP) engine guarantees high mobility on confined urban terrain. The self-supporting safety cell made of armoured steel and the composite armour ensure optimal crew safety. It can also be used on difficult terrain thanks to its high-performance chassis with single-wheel suspension – as demonstrated by its ability to ascend grades of over 70 %.

The unladen weight of the AMPV in version type 2a is 7.3 t with an intended payload of max. 2.6 t. In addition, the vehicle can be fitted with a weapon station on the roof which can be equipped either with a machine gun up to calibre 12.7 mm or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher.

  • The vehicle was designed based on the Bundeswehr’s experience in deployment
  • Laser range finder
  • Self-supporting armoured steel safety cell with composite armour for the highest protection level in its class
  • Automated transmission for top mobility in operation
  • Automated differential lock management for easy handling
  • Vehicle concept with a balanced ratio of payload to volume, protection and total weight
  • Robust chassis with single-wheel suspension to withstand maximum stresses on any terrain
  • Central tyre inflation system (CTIS)
  • High ergonomics standards and simple operation
