Market leader for heavily armoured wheeled and tracked vehicles in Europe

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) was incepted in 1999 when the military sector of Krauss-Maffei AG was acquired by Wegmann GmbH. Since then, it has grown to become the market leader for heavily armoured wheeled and tracked vehicles in Europe. Today, KMW is a systems supplier which develops, produces and supports a broad product portfolio with more than 4,000 employees at 18 sites in Germany, Brazil, Greece, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Singapore and the USA. This includes main battle tanks, artillery systems, infantry fighting vehicles, anti-aircraft, reconnaissance and bridge laying systems as well as air-loadable and armoured wheeled vehicles.

In addition, KMW has far-reaching system competencies in civilian and military simulation, command and control systems and remote-controlled carriages with reconnaissance and observation equipment. Over 50 nations worldwide rely on products from KMW. Since 2015, KMW has been a company in the German-French defence group KMW + NEXTER Defense Systems (KNDS).

RCH 155 – Combination of automated artillery firepower and armoured wheeled mobility

A systematic development of the PzH 2000, the RCH 155 is a lighter, more flexible and long-range artillery weapon for all areas of use, providing ultimate protection for the crew. In addition to high flexibility and top mobility, the BOXER drive module of the RCH 155 provides its crew with exceptional survivability and superior protection from mines, IEDs and ballistic threats.

German Army receives further LEGUAN bridge layer

The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has commissioned Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) to supply additional Leguan bridge laying systems to the German Army. The contract covers 24 Leguan systems on the Leopard 2 chassis, training simulators, ancillary equipment and transport systems.

KMW, Nexter and Rheinmetall get the go-ahead for initial MGCS architecture study

Standing for Main Ground Combat System, MGCS is a joint Franco-German defence project. The programme, to be implemented under German political leadership, is tasked with developing a main combat system to succeed the Bundeswehr’s Leopard 2 and the French Army’s Leclerc starting in 2035.

Making the start of the MGCS procurement programme Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), Nexter Systems and Rheinmetall AG established an ARGE in December 2019.

Denmark procures LEGUAN bridge-layers

The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) has signed an agreement with Krauss - Maffei Wegmann (KMW) for the procurement of seven Leguan bridge - layer systems on Leopard 2 chassis on 12 December 2019. The order comprises a total of six Leguan systems, a comprehensive periphery package, training simulators and an additional carrier vehicle. Shipping of the bridge - layers will begin at the end of 2022.

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) transferred the first two Leguan bridge laying systems to the Dutch Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) during a celebratory handover ceremony.
